When I wrote about my childhood writing fits, an interesting topic came up – The way we used to sneak out and watch those supposedly sexy shows on the just arrived Star network in India. I realized this could make a post in itself and for the number of times it would have the word ‘Sex’ , it would probably also get many hits :) .

This was in those days when Star network had just arrived in India and hadn’t forayed into its Indianization path. Watching white people with the correct curves in scantily clad clothes was something new and exciting. Nature brought coincidence and well, puberty. The Bold and The Beautiful was among of our favorite shows, thanks to its complicated Love triangles where almost everybody slept with everybody, we got to watch atleast one ’scene’ (as we called it then) in every episode. Ridge Forrester was our hero who could carry off a whole episode in his undie, kissing his girl on the beach. And then there was Baywatch with its hot life guards and Pamela Anderson running in her red bikini with wet hair was the ultimate fantasy.

pamela Anderson in Baywatch

Language was unimportant and uninteresting. We knew it was English, but they sounded different and we didnt care to understand them either, all we wanted is that they kiss each other atleast twice in every episode. I would have the TV on mute and prayed that they would kiss everytime they came close to each other. These hot scenes we’d would watch were the favorite subject of those interval conversations in school. Who caught up with how many scenes, which show had a deeper smooch and how could we possibly keep our parents away from TV at that time. We almost idolized a friend who sweared that he watched a women topless in his favorite show Models Inc. How I wished I could stay alone at home to watch it.

Our curiosity grew with age and so did the desires, naturally as they should. We passed from TV onto hot movies onto porn movies onto Internet porn onto Strip bars onto ……. hmmm enough of confessions, lets leave the rest to Imagination.

  2. My MY! You are NOT the sweet innocent young lad you’ve always appeared to be. ;]

All adolescences, even girls, will find will find a source of titillation somewhere. Have you ever read one of those cheap romance novels? Whoa!

  3. Oh God, did you do all that? chee chee dirty boy… LOL :) )

Another nice thing I remember was browsing thru street booksellers and trying to flip thru Playboys on the way.

Seriously speaking its so very true, its so very me, its so very we all. A true guy of our age will definitely think of his past after reading it….

  6. @Manasa: True :) Boys will be boys

@handmaiden: he he, I didnt quite think of something which made me appear like tht :) , I did read sleazy sex stories though, couldnt ever get to reading cheap sex novels

@Priyank: We had heard of playboy, but all that we could have access to was debonair, which was hidden under matresses, in shoe boxes and all other imaginative places :)

@Rohit: true, its so very we all, so did i already confess beyond the obvious? :) and doing a post on this, sure I’ll be looking forward to it. One can never have enough of posts on sex :)

  7. Continuing on this theme…I never allowed ‘dirty’ magazines, cheap romance novels, or anything I considered ’smut’ in the house mainly because it was such lowbrow literature.
What i found out is, where ever there is sex, teenagers will find it. I realized that when i found my missing copy of Arotica by Anis Nin hidden in my sons bedroom, when he was about 13 years old.

I have learned that sex is a major drive in adolescents, & promoting a healthy attitude toward it is an important job for parents.

  8. The funniest part was the labels that said, nostalgia (About) sex ;)

  9. @handmaiden: Well All I read were short sex stories in normal magazines. I dont remember reading exclusively smut :) , however as I said to Priyank, We had Debonair ( A mag like playboy) hidden in our shoe boxes, school bags and all other imaginative places :)

@phoenix: ha ha …that does sound funny :)

@Prash: Yeah it so was a taboo and while browsing channels if there was a kiss on Star I had to quickly skip onto the next channel just bcos my parents are watching :( , Damn!

  13. i removed the poll, was too ashamed of it :-( .
yeah we slowly graduated with cable. remember how we’d turn red when they would continuously talk about balatkar in Shanti. i remember in the middle of the show pooja bhatt n company would come n say kandom ka pryaog karein. (I’ve never understood why they can’t pronounce it Condom ). slowly we got so used to the word, we’d come from school, switch on the tv and eat while they went baltkar baltkar.

  14. @flygye: hmm wished I could see it before u removed ;) . Hmm Shanti, thank God I never watched it, but yeah balatkaar was pretty common in movies. Remember that sudden loud cry that used to come while doing balaatkars, i wondered what exactly happened then :) , and yeah kandom :) , thx TV for all the fun.

  15. hmm..we do get so many radio stations……btw FMen in their undies shows, there used to be NICE late night movies on DD of all channels before they turned prudes. Isn’t this post attracting so many comments ? heh heh heh boys will be boys

  16. Now this was one hell of a hilarious piece of confessional writing. No comments or judgements at all. By the way, I dont know why but I am reminded of the innocent days of two flowers being brought closer. ;O

  17. @flygye: hmm u seem to be pretty excited abt those men in their undies ;) . So many comments? well, i know people who are also restraining frm commenting on this bcos its on sex :) , and yeah boys will be boys.

@Manpreet: That’s the funniest way of interpreting romance and did u miss two birds kissing? :)

  19. Didn’t Pamela Anderson got famous because of Baywatch ? I remember now…;-)
